Waterfront Market

One

of the most iconic institutions of Old Dubai, Deira Fish Market, has shut its stall for the final time, following the opening of Waterfront Market.

Deira Fish Market, in Al Ras, has been around for nearly 60 years, opening in 1958, and proved to be one of Deira’s biggest tourist attractions. The traders have been instructed to move over to the Waterfront Market, a brand-new, cleaner, air-conditioned retail space with state-of-the-art technology and hygiene measures, which is home to more than just fish traders.

Waterfront Market is designed to be a destination for all fresh food shopping in the region, featuring butchers, vegetable traders and dried goods merchants, as well as fishermen. The entire project is part of the Deira Enrichment Project, which has been focused in to transform Deira into a “bustling hub of life that will add to the already rich tapestry woven by communities past and present,” according to Ithra Dubai.

The new market is all set and joined by waterfront apartments, an extension to Deira Souk, retail and leisure complexes and more. Fish vendors at Deira Fish Market have already moved ahead to the new market, vegetable and meat traders have also relocated, after the successful negotiations on rent prices at Waterfront Market.

Waterfront Market is open now, located on Al Khaleef Road opposite Abu Hail. The new market “represents a combination of traditional Emirati souq and the multicultural spirit of the city in a modern purpose-built facility”, which is expected to serve as many as 500,000 visitors a month. Waterfront Market is focused to attract more customers with its clean and neat environment, air-conditioning and covered parking facilities. The market area is famous for reputed brands of coffee shops, restaurants, a supermarket and other retail outlets. The waterfront market is equipped with a state-of-the-art fish cutting section, which has been contracted to a private firm. With Eid

Eid Al Adha

Each day the market witnesses a large increase in the footfall. Another major highlight of the month was the launch of the Mural painting competition, which celebrates the UAE’s progress and captures the sentiment of the budding art scene in Dubai and the UAE. The fest combined the heritage and culture with a touch of modernity. Waterfront Market organized a number of funfilled entertainment activities for its visitors and patrons of all age groups, especially families, which attracted both shoppers and their children alike to the venue during the holidays. These activities presented several attractive offers, grand prizes, dazzling entertainment and interactive activities. The happenings included magic shows, duo acrobatic show, Henna art, face painting and an arts and crafts station for the kids, which engaged them in lantern decorating, and ceramic painting.

The Waterfront Market’s main entrance has finally been completed and is now open — it provides visitors and shoppers easy access and entry that leads to various key points of the area.
