Designed
as a contemporary space, Ninive Dubai is appealing to a curious and well-travelled crowd. The menu does not revisit the past but revives sometimes-forgotten tastes to a region with powerful culinary traditions.
The geographical location of the restaurant is great, the restaurant is suspended, seems to be floating, in the heart of a sweltering city district, in the center of the world, yet in the middle of the desert. It is designed to be somewhere between a garden and a contemporary urban majlis.
In Islamic culture, the majlis is known to be the space where one meets, the place where official assemblies are conducted and decisions are taken.
The place has a name that represents this meeting, or confluence, of influences, preserving its link to the history of the region. According to researchers, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the only Wonder of the World never found, would have flourished in ancient Ninive, one of the oldest cities of Mesopotamia. It was also the capital of the Assyrian empire in the seventh century BCE. This name requires authenticity, it induces a thousand stories that carry the legend. This is how Ninive was born.
Diners can go back into the region’s culinary history, get some insight about the changes that have occurred over time, find the gastronomic treasures similar to that of French and European techniques. Ninive is elegant, its cuisine is served on crockery created especially for the venue by potters, suited to the refined tastes of a clientele accustomed to excellence. The sautéed lamb is marinated in spices
before being cooked in the casserole dish, and each vegetable prepared separately to preserve its individual aroma. The menu also offers tastes to a region with powerful culinary traditions. The dishes are Iranian, Iraqi, Egyptian, Turkish, Saudi or a mixture of these gastronomies.
Ninive was conceived by The London studio Hopscotch, led by James Michael Lees, as an urban majlis at the feet of Emirates Towers, its decor incorporates the aesthetics of the Bedouin tent. The restaurant is surrounded by a wooden structure, the windows of which symbolize the openness and opportunities for meetings, Ninive welcomes guests to converge around coffee tables.
Ninive is a hanging garden, local plants and wood offer a lot of relief to the natural decoration. Ninive bears its own mythology, every object has been designed and made especially for the place. Offering a real tribute to the skills of these craftsmen who have been allowed to produce unique work. Ninive is a creative platform and a fun party venue, the team’s uniforms were created by French Algerian fashion designer Norya ayroN.
