Dubai’s
arts hub, Alserkal Avenue presents its third annual summer programme, under the theme ‘Sensing Memory’.
The series of workshops, lectures, performances, and seminars draws from the UAE’s creative community and beyond are set up to explore the connection between the senses – personal and collective memories.
This art class takes attendees on a journey to a profound level into the subconscious mind, through breathing exercises and meditation techniques. Once guided into a state of relaxation to loosen inhibitions that may block emotions and memories, people will be invited to physically manifest their memories using ink techniques. The two-hour free to attend event is designed to assist one to connect and look for the deeply rooted messages in the subconscious mind, such as memories, feelings, thoughts and ideas. Many creative spaces in the Avenue are also
hosting summer camps and workshops for children during the school vacations. These include photography camps at Gulf Photo Plus, musical theatre camps at Sima Performing Arts and art camps at The Jam Jar. Sensing Memory will run at Alserkal Avenue until September 15.
Alserkal Avenue is the arts district is located in the heart of the industrial area of Al Quoz. Well known locations of art in the city as Ayyam Gallery, Carbon 12, Desert Fish Studio, Etemad Gallery, FN Designs, Gallery Isabelle van den Eynde, Green Art Gallery, Gulf Photo Plus and La Gallerie Nationale are all accommodated at Alserkal. Alserkal Avenue holds International acclaim and are pioneering the region’s cultural scene by fostering International dialogue and cultural exchange. It also provides arts space through Satellite, which assists as a stage to fund artists in residence, while other creatives such as Gulf Photo Plus, FN Designs, Mojo showcase enriching the district with an exhilarating schedule of workshops, talks and community events.
All galleries participate in an annual event called QUOZ, an all day concept inviting art enthusiasts to explore the creative spaces. It’s an unusual combination of industrial businesses and arts spaces reflecting the unique synergy of the creative community situated here.
The workshop is open to those aged 16 and above, and is limited to 15 participants. These events of the Sensing Memory programme are free and open to all, but spaces are limited so prior registration is necessary.
