Huge Chinese New Year fireworks displays in Dubai this week!

Enjoy some spectacular shows to ring in The Year of the Rat Chinese New Year 2020 in Dubai with plenty of fireworks displays set to take place across Dubai to celebrate the Year of the Rat. With a number of celebrations set across the city over, Dubai residents and visitors now have a chance to mark CNY in style.

Every evening until Wednesday January 29, The Pointe on the Palm Jumeirah will be setting up with daily fireworks displays from 21:00. Citywide displays will be taking place on Thursday January 30 until Saturday February 1. Best place to head would be to be at The Beach at 20:30, La Mer at 21:30 and Al Seef at 22:30 for their displays. The Dubai Frame, fresh from having lit up for New Year’s Eve for the first time, is getting involved too on Friday January 31 (the same day as John Legend live in Dubai, incidentally) and on Saturday February 1 at 19:30.

Discover the spirit of Chinese tradition, as the city lights up in red for Chinese New Year.  The pyrotechnic display at 20:30 and famous IMAGINE show at the Dubai Festival City bay area, guarantees to light up the whole family’s day. Best would be to go early so that little builders can check out the Middle East’s biggest LEGO® Festival with over one million bricks. From 25 January to 1 February, Chinese residents and tourists will also get an extra 10% off on every gift card purchase worth AED300 at the mall. Dazzling coulors on 24 January at Dubai Frame at 19:30, The Beach at 20:30, La Mer at 21:30 or Al Seef at 22:30, then come back for more from 30 January to 1 February.

Cherish the traditional festive spirit at The Pointe’s anticipated Dragon Boat Festival, which will feature 50 rowing teams participate in two formats – a 500m challenge for professional rowing teams, and a 200m competition for amateurs. Best line-up of themed dining experiences, including the special lunch featuring authentic Chinese delights at Ossiano, Dubai’s first underwater dining restaurant. Elsewhere in the resort, there will be a lion dance performance from 24 to 26 January, as well as a grand fireworks display on 24 January from 20:00 onwards.

One can gear up for an unforgettable Chinese New Year at The Dubai Mall from 25 January to 1 February. Enjoy ‘China Art’ – a Chinese-themed celebration complete with live shows, arts and craft workshops and traditional games. A place to challenge your mind with a game of mahjong or catch the impressive parade set amid evocative decor. There are thrilling activities like puppet shows and musical gigs lined up for children too. Market Outside The Box is a great place where the Chinese New Year theme continues from 18 to 22 January. Keep an eye out for Kung Fu Tea, a unique traditional act where the performers twirl, spin and throw the teapots around while pouring tea into cups, as well as the operatic-like Face Changing, where performers wear bright coloured costumes and masks and showcase dramatic moves.

From 23 January to 1 February there will be a host of traditional activities and performances to keep everyone entertained. The grand Como Garden at Palazzo Versace Dubai lights up for the traditional Chinese Lantern Festival on 8 February from 17:00 to 22:00. Visitors can embark on a culinary journey to China with authentic cuisine taking centre stage at the festival’s live cooking stations, while kids can enjoy activities like face painting and calligraphy.

For more waterfront views with an assortment of dining experiences to choose from, one can head to the Lantern Festival at Silk Flavor Restaurant, Al Seef on 8 February. The area will be adorned with festive lights and decorations, making for a magical setting. The Beach at JBR also has some exciting Chinese New Year activities in store, including traditional dragon dances, umbrella dances, fan dances and drum performances. The little ones will enjoy special sing-along shows with the DreamWorks Trolls, and everyone can look forward to thrilling fireworks from 25 January to 1 February.

Explore the China pavilion lit up in bright red, to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Each year from October to April, visitors flock to Global Village, where more than 75 countries are represented. Each pavilion transports visitors to a different country, where they can explore its food, enjoy live entertainment and shop for products. Take pleasure in traditional handicrafts, themed performances and authentic food from the Far East. Don’t forget to stay for the fireworks, with shows lined up every Thursday and Friday at 21:00. All this and more, at just AED15 a ticket.

A variety of lavish dining experiences to try at Waldorf Astoria, Palm Jumeirah. Diners can head to Mezzerie for a themed buffet including sublime seafood, creative sushi, and fresh salad stations. Don’t miss the special lion dance performance taking place at the hotel on 25 January from 18:30 to 22:30. Ewaan at Palace Downtown is an ideal spot for a family dinner, with laidback tunes and idyllic views of The Dubai Fountain show by Burj Khalifa. Right from corner to corner, Dubai Parks and Resorts celebrates the occasion with vigour. At MOTIONGATE, Hollywood glamour goes under red and golden lanterns from 22 January to 8 February at Studio Central’s China House. One can immerse themselves in vibrant traditions watching Dragon and Lion Dances from Wednesday to Saturday, and stick around for Master Po Parade’s starring beloved characters from your favourite films. A pop-up market is showcasing traditional Chinese arts and crafts, where everyone can sample authentic delicacies before enjoying the park’s plethora of rides and entertainment.
