Modhesh Friends Forum set to engage children in series of online discussions at Dubai Summer Surprises 2007
  6/29/2007 9:23:37 AM
Modhesh Friend ForumModhesh Friends Forum, organised by Dubai eGovernment as part of the annual Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS), is already making its mark at the 2007 edition that began on June 21st. Like the previous years, this year too, a host of exciting topics in Arabic and English make up the online discussion forum at www.emodhesh.ae.

The forum, which is open to kids and teenagers between the ages 9 and 18, also gives them an opportunity to chat with the friendly DSS mascot, Modhesh. Topics that will be discussed at the forum range from fashion, cooking, Islam and video games to sports, entertainment and children’s dreams. The winners will be entitled to attractive prizes during the 10-week long DSS.

Last year, the Modhesh Friends Forum turned out to be one of the most popular events for children during DSS. The Arabic Forum received over 40,000 inputs from more than 1,000 registered users, whereas the English Forum received more than 7,000 inputs from 200 registered users.

“The Modhesh Friends Forum is undoubtedly among the most eagerly-awaited events in the DSS calendar, especially among children above nine, since the forum is intellectually stimulating and fun at the same time. This year the forum is certain to attract even greater participation in both Arabic and English as we have included several exciting and topical subjects for discussion,” said Rehab Lootah, eServices Provisioning Manager, Dubai eGovernment.

“The Modhesh Friends Forum is part of Dubai eGovernment’s larger initiative to encourage children to take to Information Technology, so that they become highly IT-literate eCitizens of tomorrow,” she added.
The Modhesh Friends Forum is linked to the official DSS website www.mydss.ae and also to the official DSS events schedule. The format of the Forum is designed not only to ensure maximum participation from children in various categories; it also rewards participants who have demonstrated their knowledge in a particular subject, by appointing them as moderators for a specific forum. Moderators oversee the forum they are in charge of, and they are authorised to edit, delete and move posts as and when required.

Dubai eGovernment is a pioneering initiative in the region to provide online services across the spectrum of corporate and community life in the emirate. It also has a vision to integrate individually automated government departments under the single umbrella of the eGovernment initiative, thus empowering employees across lines of businesses and levels of government, besides facilitating the lives of citizens and customers of the government. Dubai has taken a lead in the region in deploying eGovernment applications and is among the first few governments in the world to provide such integrated services to its citizens.
