Burj Dubai World's tallest building opens 2 December
  08.04.2009

The Burj Dubai will officially open to the public on UAE National Day later this year

Emaar, the developer, has maintained tight secrecy about the Burj’s opening date, but a senior architect working on the project has confirmed to Arabian Business that 2 December has been set aside for the opening.

‘This will be a huge achievement and a big celebration for the UAE and for Emaar, particularly as it’s UAE National Day. It will be the first time the public can enter the building,’ said the architect. More than 1,000 specially commissioned pieces of art will be displayed inside the building.

The final piece of glass cladding to complete the exterior of Burj Dubai is now ready (pictured right) and will be installed within weeks, developer Emaar said last week.

Six-metres in length, the panel is the last of 24,348 pieces of cladding fitted to the super-structure. Made from aluminium, steel and featuring reflective double-glazing glass, the Burj’s cladding is made up of more than 18 different strength specifications and over 200 sizes.

Emaar has been tight-lipped over the final height of the Burj Dubai, which is thought to have topped out earlier this year at 818m.
