As the countdown for the fifth Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) begins, organisers are seeking a temporary workforce to assist with operations.
DIFF will host a career fair on September 14 from 9am to 4pm at Conference Room 1 and 2 of the Dubai Knowledge Village to offer interim positions to people living in the UAE.
More than 200 temporary staff are required for the smooth functioning of essential departments such as the Industry Office, Box Office, Customer Service, Accreditation, Registration, Theatre Operations, Guest Relations and Hospitality, Dubai Film Market and Management of Events, all of which offer an opportunity to gain insight into the workings of a major international film festival.
"Without the support, commitment and enthusiasm of our staff, we would not have been able to make the festival the success it is locally, nor would we have achieved the recognition we strive for regionally and internationally" said Shivani Pandya, Managing Director of the festival.
"DIFF realises its responsibility towards the local community and towards creating a thriving film culture within it. Opening the doors for community members to take part in one of the most awaited events on the UAE calendar is a great way to instill in them the concept of a film culture. It also gives them an opportunity to practice their skills and abilities as well gain hands on experience in one of the most rapidly growing industries."
Working with people from all over the world, the DIFF operations team has grown to include both professionals and students from a cross section of nationalities seeking international experience.
Nearly 350 people have benefited from fairs held during earlier editions of the festival. Selected applicants undergo rigorous training sessions before taking up their assignments. Several of those who supported past editions of the festival have returned in following years, validating the programme's success and popularity.
All applicants must be 21 years of age or older and residents of the UAE. Applicants may submit resumes to diffcareers@tecom.ae. The fifth edition of the Dubai International Film Festival will run from December 11-18, 2008.
